Í kring 01 “Brief session of affection” will showcase the work of five talented young artists stretched across our three locations, namely Kárastigur 1, Brautarholt 2 and Freyjugata 41 (Ásmundarsalur), from the 14th of June to the 9th of July.
The show will officially open on the 14th of June. For this occasion we invite you for a small walk starting in Brautarholt 2 at 16:30 continuing to Kárastígur 1 around 17:00 and finishing the tour in Ásmundarsalur on Freyjugata 41 from 17:30. We will have a small toast in each place—everyone is welcome!
Anna Story was born in Świdnica, Poland, in 1984, she is a graduate of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław.
”I use my pencils (or ink) to translate emotions and mental states onto the page. The images I create are fed by an endless curiosity of human behaviour and its conditioning.”
Aleksandra Malczewska, born in Warsaw in 1989, attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and Łódź.
She is particularly intrigued by people and their quirks, which are transferred on paper with the use of techniques such as pencil and crayons or ink.
Helga Páley born in 1987 in Reykjavik, graduated with a BA in Fine Art from the Iceland Academy of the Arts 2011 and later studied motion creation from Hyper Island in Stockholm 2018.
“I like to draw thinks that makes me laugh, if it’s not funny it has to satisfy my eye in some eccentric way”
Korkimon is a visual artist born in 1995 in Reykjavik, she graduated from Sarah Lawrence College (NY) in 2017.
In a world overloaded with information, she eagerly wanders and gallops from one particularly interesting hole to the next, with her best plan: no plan. The denouement always ripe with ambiguity and accidental meanings, viscerally fleshy.
Yyngrii, born in Reykjavík in 1991, has been publicly active in Iceland and abroad for half of her life through various solo and group exhibitions as well as live performances.
In her work she celebrates her own connection with nature and other dimensions.
Although the work of these five artists stretches across different mediums and approaches, we traced a leitmotif within the exhibition which strongly resonated with us, hidden within strong lines and powerful images that reveal the beauty of imperfection, often with irony and humor, sometimes leading to deeper discoveries.
We are proud to see all these talents’ works side by side in our very first show, and hope to see many of you on the 14th.
We are currently planning the year to come and have an ongoing call for artists. Note that the type of work is not limited to any medium as long as it falls under the requirements of our curation committee. Application can be sent to julie@reykjavikroasters.is with example of work, bio and artists intention.
