Description
Until six years ago, Guji coffee played almost no role in the Ethiopian coffee sector. It was only when young investors took the risk and started building processing plants in the region that things took off. Local farmers began to grow coffee plants and earn a living from it. The young coffee plants grow on mineral-rich volcanic soils, a favourable environment for Arabica coffee varieties.
The farm is located near the town of Shakiso in a small district called Tero Kebelle. The Dimtu Coffee Industry PLC is a cooperative managed and operated by Getachewe Zeleke. The cooperative runs its own farm and works closely with local smallholder farmers. It is important to Getachewe that smallholders they work with are partners at eye level and equal players within the value chain.
